Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget

To mark ANZAC day, the 25th of April, the monks chanted the Subvenite, a responsory usually sung upon receiving the news of the death of a Benedictine monk or friend of the monastery. May Our Lord grant eternal rest to all those who have given their lives for our country. Requiescant in pace.

“Subveníte Sancti Dei, occúrrite Angeli Domini: Suscipiéntes ánimas eórum, offeréntes eas in conspéctu Altíssimi. Suscípiat vos Christus qui vocávit vos, et in sinum Abrahae Angeli dedúcant te. Réquiem aetérnam dona eis, Dómine: et lux perpétua lúceat eis.

Come to their assistance, ye Saints of God, come forth to meet them, ye Angels of the Lord: receiving their souls, offer them in the sight of the Most High. May Christ receive you who has called you, and may the Angels lead you into Abraham’s bosom. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.”
