May 2026 (30 April-2 May)
May is the month of Mary, and so our triduum will focus on her importance in our lives. We will do so by focusing on the teachings St Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort, who taught so emphatically that Mary is the shortest, safest and most perfect path to the Heart of her Son. To surrender entirely into the hands of Mary so that she may lead us to her Son: such is the surest path to, not just salvation, but to holiness.
St Louis Marie bases his argumentation on two fundamental points:
1) Mary was necessary to God in the Incarnation of the Word.
She was not necessary in the sense that God needed her. She was necessary in the fact that God did actually decide to come to us through her, and that makes her a necessary component in the offer of Divine Grace. God willed to give us all things through Mary: that is the simple truth. Through her we have received the Son of God and through Him all the treasures of Grace that we now have access to. This is why all of Heaven waited breathless for her Fiat on the day of the Annunciation: the salvation of every single soul depends on her Yes to God.
2) Mary is necessary to God in the Sanctification of Souls.
God willed to come to us through Mary, and He also wills that we go to Him through Her. This is the exact meaning of her role as Mediatrix of All Grace. No grace is given to any human soul without it passing through the immaculate hands of Mary, whether or not the person is aware of her intercession. God has literally made Mary the treasurer of all the goods of divine grace that have been conferred upon the world.
St Louis Marie notes that in the writings of St Bernard, St Bernadine of Siena, St Bonaventure and others, in Heaven and on earth everything, even God Himself, is subject to the Blessed Virgin. They mean that the authority which God as been well pleased to give her is so great that it seems as if she had the same power as God: and that her prayers and petitions are so powerful with God that they always pass for commandments with His Majesty, who never resists the prayer of His dear Mother, because she is always humble and conformed to His Will.
The conclusion is simple: let us turn to Mother Mary at every step of the road. Let us take in hand our beloved Rosary as often as we can. Mary is the shortest, safest and most perfect path to the Heart of her Son. To surrender entirely into the hands of Mary so that she may lead us to her Son: such is the surest path to, not just salvation, but to holiness. And it is the most certain way to obtain graces for all the intentions that we pray for during this triduum.
