On 15 August 2018, Notre Dame Priory became owner of this 2,700 acre property in the Southern Midlands of Tasmania, approximately 45 mn north of Hobart.

The community hopes to build a full monastery in a traditional style on a more advantageous part of the estate, but there are some required negotiations with local council and state planning in order to make this possible by rezoning. This can take up to a year or more.

In the meantime the monks, after having completed some needed renovation and built some temporary buildings, hope to move into the area immediately surrounding the old sandstone house on the property.

Eventually plans are to have a full guest house/retreat centre, to build workshops (printing press, winery…), to have orchards and vineyard and perhaps some animals, all to allow the monks to both practice Benedictine hospitality and offer times of retreat as well as to provide for their own livelihood.

For our immediate needs, here is a list of costs we are facing. If you are able to help out with any of them, we will be most grateful!

NB. Several persons have asked us about coming to lend a helping hand. This is possible, and the monks would provide accommodations and food. But due to the circumstances, for the moment we need to proceed on an individual basis to see what is logistically possible. If you would like to come and help with work, please send us a message and we will get back to you!
